Our Sponsor A Passion program helps children thrive by getting them involved in existing passions and new activities.
Scholarships for sports, arts, music and stem activities
Immigrant families frequently encounter financial constraints, language barriers, and cultural differences that can make it challenging for their children to access sports, music and arts programs. These children are at risk of missing out on the numerous advantages these activities offer, including improved health, social integration, and academic success.
By investing in their participation, we can help break down these barriers and promote inclusivity, diversity, and equal opportunities for all children. Our efforts focus on four key areas:
We partnered with Fox Hill Elementary School in Indianapolis to sponsor children for their after-school enrichment program. These classes helped children explore their creative side by learning new skills. Recent classes included making art with duct tape and learning about architecture.
King County Parks recently funded us in the Seattle area to provide scholarships to children and teens to participate in a sport of their choice. Recent research has shown that if a child speaks a language other than English at home, they are 43% less likely to have ever participated in a team sport. Children have signed up for swimming, bicycle and taekwondo lessons as well as joining recreational soccer and basketball teams.
Investing in the participation of immigrant children in diverse activities will have long-lasting benefits, not only for the children and their families but also for the community as a whole. By fostering a supportive, inclusive environment, we can help these children thrive and contribute positively to society.
For less than $35 a month, you can help a child explore a passion of their choice and help them make new friends.
